I would like to dedicate my first post here to my amazing belated Grandmother. On May 21st, 2017, Lois Weems passed from this world and on to her next adventure. I am sad to see her go, but am overjoyed to know she is no longer suffering. For almost a decade, my grandmother suffered from the slow onset of Alzheimer's Disease. My siblings might be too young to remember, but I remember my grandma before things went downhill. While being stubborn lady, my grandma was unbelievably talented. She was an amazing painter. Her works are found all throughout her home and mine. She was the origin for my love of art and she even taught me the basics of how to draw and paint.
She had a burning passion for the arts, and her favorite all being the act of quilting. almost every time she came to our house, her and my mother would be heard talking about quilt patterns and comparing one another's works in progress. She made quilts for everyone in the family and they were simply amazing. Having had my own opportunity to learn the art of quilting and sewing this past year, I now have a grand appreciation for what her and my mother and aunt do. I will say, it's not for anyone lacking patience.
My grandma was an amazing woman. It hurt seeing her mind fade away, as her body quickly followed suit. But I will always have these memories and hope to honor her in my life and career. I love you grandma, and always will. Rest in Peace.
